Will work independently and a part of a team to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children. Work with County agency staff to coordinate services and programs for the wellbeing of the children. Provide information and ensure linkage to community providers who work with special needs children. Some responsibilities include, but not limited to, coordinate with DCFS staff to identify developmentally disabled children who have experienced child abuse or neglect. Consult with DCFS staff regarding types of support/services needed to prevent future abuse; obtain and maintain placement of children and family. Work with DCFS staff, parents and or foster parents to identify barriers for placement and to remove those barriers. Provide and/or identify training, education, and mentoring sessions for parents, foster parents and other providers to provide support and to develop skills for working with special needs children.
Qualifications: BA degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology or related field and one year experience working in a group home, hospital, day treatment, or equivalent setting, OR AA degree and two years relevant experience, OR HS diploma and three years relevant experience. Previous experience working with children with special needs. Previous experience assessing for child abuse highly preferred. Experience in social services and/or child protective services; familiarity with the Department of Children and Family services preferred. Able to work independently and exercise sound judgment in crisis situations, both in the office setting and in the field/community. Able to communicate thought and ideas clearly both orally and written, in English and Spanish. Able to work evenings and weekends when needed. Must have reliable transportation, valid CA driver’s license, provide proof of auto liability insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
Salary: $22 - $25/hour
